About our organisation

The objective of the G&STN is to provide weekly audio tapes of local news taken from the Central Somerset Gazette to the blind, or visually-impaired.

If you have a friend or relative who could benefit from this free service ... read on ...

This service is available free of charge to the blind, or visually-impaired. The news is read by volunteers from various local groups on a rota basis. They produce a master tape of the week's news and other groups get involved with the bulk copying and distribution. Once a month an additional magazine-type programme is recorded on the reverse side.

The tapes are then delivered to the recipients in Freepost Wallets with reversible label for returning to the Glastonbury Town Hall.

Currently the number of tapes we send out every week is between 40 and 50. The number of helpers involved is approximately 50, taken from the following organizations: Glastonbury Tor Townswomen's Guild; Lions Club; University of the Third Age; Street Methodist Church; Millfield School; Crispin School, Street; St Dunstan's School; Glastonbury WI and St John's Church and the Magazine Team.
